The original Kuznets curve posited, back in 1955, that inequality of incomes would follow an inverted-U pattern as a nation’s economy developed, first rising, and then declining. In 1955, this looked reasonable! The “environmental Kuznets curve” suggests that pollution may follow an inverted-U pattern as a nation’s economy develops…
