The Right Incentives for a Low-Carbon Future / Thomas Fricke, Chief Economist of the European Climate Foundation, Project syndicate, 14/01/2016
The climate agreement that world leaders reached in Paris last month has been widely celebrated for establishing the ambitious target of limiting the increase in global temperature to well below 2º Celsius above pre-industrial levels. But the agreement is just one step, albeit an important one. Policymakers now must figure out how to achieve this goal – no easy feat, especially given that, contrary to the conventional wisdom, steadily rising costs for conventional energy cannot be counted on to propel the necessary shift toward a low-carbon future… lire
Solar Power’s Paradoxical 2015 in Three Charts / Varun Sivaram & Sagatom Saha, Energy, Security, and Climate, 14/01/2016
In his final State of the Union address, President Obama celebrated the remarkable growth of clean energy, particularly solar power, which in 2015 added 7.4 GW of capacity in the United States and 55 GW globally. However, he also omitted an equally remarkable trend: over the same year, the Global Solar Index, which tracks the overall industry, collapsed, losing nearly half its value from a mid-year high… lire
Rob MacKenzie, Professor of Atmospheric Science, University of Birmingham, the Conversation, 15/01/2016
The Paris Agreement: key points and future prospects, Carlo Carraro’s blog, 11/01/2016
December 12, 2015 has taken its place in the history of the fight against climate change as the date on which 195 countries succeeded in finding a common agreement for reducing anthropogenic emissions and handling the impacts of rising global temperature… lire
My 2016 Energy Predictions /
, chemical engineer, the Energy Collective, 12/01/2016When I made my annual energy predictions a year ago, I noted that I foresaw a “lot of uncertainty in the energy markets” and indicated that “the direction on several fronts is unclear.” That certainly proved to be the case as numerous pundits – including me – missed on oil price predictions… lire
