Small versus big nuclear reactors

Small versus big nuclear reactors: an appraisal through the electric network / Jean-Guy Devezeaux de Lavergne, EU energy policy blog, 17/01/2011

http://www.energypolicyblog.com/2011/01/17/small-versus-big-nuclear-reactors-an-appraisal-through-the-electric-network/

In this contribution, we will specify a few details relating to the comparison of the respective advantages of small and large nuclear reactors, by comparing them with the electric network.

We are dealing here with the supply of a given power and the conditions in which it would appear desirable to build small reactors to meet this requirement. This also includes network requirements relating to these reactors, with respect to the construction of larger units. The analysis has been conducted, taking into account the greater network requirements relating to a large reactor (further from distributed consumption), approximated by a very high voltage connecting line between the reactor and remote (in respect of the network) consumption centres…
