Global primary energy demand will continue to grow, mostly driven by the pressure coming from emerging economies with a still low per-capita energy use, such as China. Despite recent price increases, fossil fuels will maintain a central role, though their share in the primary energy mix will decline. At the same time, there will be a greater penetration of low-carbon alternatives, driven by government policies to enhance energy security and to address local or global environmental problems…
